My Li’l Bro’s Wedding
How fast time flies. I can still remember how i craddle my youngest brother to sleep when he was a baby. How i used to wake up at night to either change his diapers or make him a bottle of milk everytime my mom had night shift in the hospital where she’s working. That was 29 years ago now. Then finally, yesterday, he married his sweetheart who has been his girlfriend for 8 years.
That was an occassion full of emotions. Considering that my dad is seriously ill, we were all worried if he could withstand the torture of alternately sitting and standing in the church and being at the wedding reception for at least 4 hours without falling asleep or feeling weak. Nowadays, my dad couldn’t sit longer than 30 minutes because of his rectum c. Inspite of his being weak, he promised my brother to walk him to the altar on his wedding day. He really did everything to feel fit and bring his body in good condition, even if it was only for this special day. We were all surprised when he passed this difficult test of fate with bravour.
Though the wedding ceremony started a little late due to the delayed arrival of the bridal car to fetch the bride, still the whole church ceremony flowed smoothly. My sister sung the entire wedding songs, as requested by the couple. After the church rites, we proceeded to the garden reception in one of the famous resorts in our town. The decorations, food, program and sitting arrangements were perfectly organized. That was a very classy, elegant and lively wedding reception, with all the traditional rites that belongs to it, plus a modern inclusion of live music to entertain the guests and a wide screen for actual viewing of the whole ceremony. I could not stop my tears from falling when my li’l brother expressed his gratitudes to the people who helped him make his wedding a beautiful event to remember all his life, especially to my dad who kept his promise to accompany him to his wedding. How tough he was to be with the whole ceremony from the start up to the end.
This wedding of my li’l brother costed me a treasure. But i dont mind it at all and would still do the same if necessary. Sure, we were all in stress during the preparation, most especially the couple and me. But the outcome was good. And that’s what matters most. Unfortunately, the after effect of the entire tiry event strikes me and my li’l brother today, a day after the wedding…..we were both knocked down by flu with everything that belongs to it like severe throat sore, cough and colds! Bed rest for us…or should i say, bed ridden…!!!
